Oceanwood Weekend

Bartlett Winery-They use no grapes...only blueberries, peaches, etc. Good Maine wine. And I dont even like wine. Close by in Gouldsboro
Schoodic Pont on a foggy, cool morning......

The Goldsmith's are off to join Lynne, George, Ensign, Jon, and Mel for a few days of camping up in God's Country of Winter Harbor, Maine. We'll be camping on the land of longtime Willard friends "The Bruntons" at their campground, appropriately called "Oceanwood." Oceanwood holds a special place in the hearts of Amanda, Jon, Lynne, and George, as they camped there each and every summer from the time Amanda was a very little girl--back when she was a "Jersey Girl" and Lynne and George would pack up the wood-paneled station wagon and drive 67 hours up the Maine coast.

This may be the last time we go to Oceanwood, since it has been purchased by some lawyer who will probably subdivide the land so idiots from Mass can drive up with their Lexus SUVs and build dumb houses and put up signs warning clammers to stay off their land, thus abolishing a generations-old tradition. But anyway.....

This will be Callum's first camping trip, and I am very nervous. Mumma is not, because she is much cooler than me. Amanda is off today because the state is shut-down, so she is home packing and getting ready. We'll leave right when I get home from school! Winter Harbor is right on Schoodic Peninsula, which is ACROSS Frenchmen's Bay (the bay right off Bar Harbor and the business of Acadia National Park). Schoodic is called "the other Acadia," since it has all (if not more) of the beauty of the rugged Maine coast without as many cars or t-shirt and keychain shops. It is very quiet and beautiful. I've got my Allez Elite all packed, and Amanda is bringing her new Dolce, and we plan on doing some great riding around the point!
