Look at this snow! There's so much I dont even know where to put it (thats what she . . .)
Another storm today of about what I would guess to be 10 inches or so . . .but it is still snowing at almost 11pm. As of last Thursday, we have officially moved into the # 5 slot for "snowiest winters of all time in Maine." Kevin Mannix was talking about this on the weather the other morning, explaining how this is the 5th snowiest winter of all time . . .since records started being kept in 1882. And, as he said, that just takes into consideration a "meteorological winter," which is from Dec-Feb. So today's storm didnt even couint . . .because it is March 1st.
Those of you who have seen what our house looks like in the spring can really appreciate just how much snow we have here in our yard. I am not joking when I say we are running out of room to put the stuff. But we both love it!
Lets see . . .this weekend so far: Friday, after leading the winter carnival assembly, I came home and "unwound" with an hour long snow shoe. Then, after raking the roof and getting wood, I came in to get ready to go chaperone the Sadie Hawkins dance. Amanda and I went to Governor's for dinner, and then went and danced our tails off (not really) with a bunch of kids. After going to bed at nearly 2, we slept in today. When we got up, we stripped some wallpaper (well it was mostly Amanda who did it) and I dug us out from today's storm. Tonight, my friend and colleague Zach, his wife Nikki, and their little son Jaxson came by for a visit (you can see some pics of them from our Christmas party blog). We drank a couple of beers, ate some great cookies Amanda made, and watched Thomas and Jaxson play together. Thomas is great with babies.
So come up to Maine and enjoy some of our snow with us!! Its only going to be around for 3 or 4 more months . . . so hurry up!!

someone told me that Alaskans don't talk about the weather ... since it can be super cold, very snowy, and dark almost 24 hours in winter months they don't "chat" about how much snow there is, etc. editor's note: of course, i don't know if this is really true ...)
guess it's like breathing to them. "Hey Chuck, how many breathes did you take TODAY?" "sure seems like a LOT of air out there this noon-time."
i think i would like the alaskan approach. a lot. does it make sense for a co-worker to walk in the door when it's -2 degrees and say "wow, it sure is cold out there"? these inane and perfectly self-evident observations make no sense at all. or the now stupid utterance "global warming". but, why do we say them? because we have absolutely NO imagination for the creative expression!!
so, let's get with it you northern new englanders (that's mayun, nh and vt). MORE creative expression of what's going on in the world around us. instead of the bland and overused "we've got so much snow there's no place to put it", how about "there's more snow than the aegean stables had cow dung when hercules cleaned them out"; or
"i can't freakin' believe this etruscan temple of snow and cascading sheets of sun shimmering like beads of love." or, "it's so cold them chickens had to put on beak-warmers last night."
try making up some of your own. here's a start ... "it's so cold ___________________

I'm ready for summer and we didn't even get snow this winter unless you consider a quick 4 inches that quickly dispappeared after it turned to rain.
i guess the "wheather" in new jersey is nice!!! maybe they can use their left over plow budget to pay for new spelling courses . . .
hey anonymous: I think you should have your own blog! Who are you? I think the "we've got so much that I dont know where to put it" comment was made SPECIFICALLY just so Jared could comment "thats what she said" after. I have to believe that Jared is more creative than that . . .and I dont even like him all that much. Also, wouldnt Alaskans ask each other how many "breaths" they took--as opposed to how many "breathes?" But I am sure you know that, since you seem to have a great vocabulary . . ..

Thanks Jared! Anonymous has a little problem with this New Jersian I think. That's ok because anonymous is pretty rude and seems to have a lot of pent up anger.
